A space for you, not just the person you care for

Caring for someone else can become such an important part of your life that your own needs gradually move further down the list.

You can love someone deeply and still find caring difficult. You can be grateful for the people in your life and still feel angry, tired, trapped or overwhelmed.

These feelings don't make you selfish or uncaring.

Perhaps you feel that you have lost part of who you were before caring became such a large part of your life. Or maybe you simply need somewhere you can talk honestly about how things really feel, without worrying about how it will affect anyone else.

Counselling can provide that space.

Having worked with many carers over the last few years, I understand that when you're used to looking after someone else, it can feel unfamiliar to have someone listen to you. I am passionate about creating that space for you - somewhere to be seen and heard. A place to talk honestly about how things really are, make sense of what you're experiencing and begin to think about what you need too where you don't have to protect anyone else's feelings or keep everything together.

My approach is warm, compassionate and non-judgemental. You don't need to arrive with a plan or know exactly what you want from counselling. We can take time to understand what's happening for you and work out together what might help.

I understand that caring for others can mean that finding time for yourself can be challenging. I offer sessions both face-to-face in Gateshead as well as online with some evening appointments available, meaning counselling can fit around your other commitments.

If you're wondering whether counselling might be right for you, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk about what you're looking for and whether I might be the right person to support you.

How counselling can help

Together, we can explore what caring has been like for

you and the impact it may be having on your emotional

wellbeing, relationships and sense of self.

You might want support with:

  • Carer stress and emotional exhaustion

  • Feeling overwhelmed or constantly on edge

  • Guilt about prioritising your own needs

  • Anxiety and persistent worry

  • Grief and loss

  • Changes to your identity or relationships

  • Feeling isolated or alone

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Finding time and space for yourself

  • Adjusting to changes in your caring role

You don't have to wait until you are completely

overwhelmed before seeking support.

Counselling

I provide a safe space for individuals to share their experiences. Together, we can navigate the challenges and emotions that arise from caring for others.

Support

My approach focuses on understanding your unique journey. We will discuss the emotional toll of caregiving and how it affects your relationships and self-identity.

Empowerment

Through our sessions, you will gain insights and tools to manage stress. My goal is to empower you to prioritise your wellbeing while continuing to support those you care for.

Connection

Building a connection is key to effective counselling. I aim to foster trust and openness, allowing you to express your feelings and experiences without judgment.
