How I Work

Therapy is a collaborative process. My role is to create a space where you feel safe, heard and supported as you explore what’s happening in your life.

Rather than following a fixed method, I take time to understand what you’re experiencing, what you hope to change, and what feels comfortable for you. Some people come wanting practical tools and strategies; others need space to talk, reflect and make sense of deeper patterns. Most people need a blend of both, and we adapt the work together as your needs evolve.

Sessions last 50 minutes, are usually held weekly and most importantly move at your pace. You decide what feels important to bring, and I offer gentle guidance, curiosity and reflection to help you explore your thoughts and feelings safely. My approach is trauma‑informed, non‑judgemental and grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens when you feel understood and empowered.

I also recognise that starting therapy can feel daunting. Building a trusting relationship is central to the work, which is why I offer a free 15‑minute consultation. It’s an opportunity for us to meet, talk through what you’re looking for, and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.

Experience

After working for 18 years in a corporate environment, I retrained as a counsellor and have spent the last two years supporting both adults and children with a wide range of issues. From anxiety and depression, carers’ fatigue, bereavement, trauma and many of the challenges that sit in between. No two people’s stories are the same, and I believe counselling should reflect that. My lived experience also gives me insight into and a greater awareness of some of the challenges you may be facing, allowing me to connect and empathise on a deeper level.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a blend of approaches — including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person‑centred therapy and psychodynamic theory, shaping the work around your individual needs and experiences. I also recognise that sometimes finding the right words can be difficult. Alongside traditional talking therapy, I often incorporate creative elements into sessions, such as art‑based work, creative writing or sand tray therapy. These approaches can help you connect with deeper, often subconscious processes, offering clarity and meaning when words feel out of reach. Working this way allows us to explore what feels most important to you in a manner that is safe, manageable and genuinely meaningful, giving you different ways to express yourself and understand your inner world.

Fees & Availability

Sessions are £45, with a limited number of concessionary spaces available for students and those on lower incomes.

I offer sessions face‑to‑face in Gateshead or online. I currently have availability for new clients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a small number of online evening appointments also available.

Choosing the right therapist can feel daunting, so to help you get a sense of whether I’m the right fit for you, I offer a free 15‑minute consultation. It’s a chance for you to ask questions, share what you’re looking for, and get a feel for whether you’d like to take the next step.
